CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Austin walked around the back of Dereck's house, ready for the day to be over. He'd spent all of his Saturday shopping for new equipment for Joe's crew to use, and two new trucks for them as well. He'd offered to have Joe go with him, but since much of what he had to do was inside, they decided it was best if he stayed at home. It really sucked since he wanted to spend the day with Joe. It was one of those things he was going to have to get used to with them being together. A side of things Austin didn't like at all, but one he would never let Joe know bothered him.

He smiled as Riley came bounding toward him. He bent so he could pet her. "Hi, there." He scratched behind her ears. "Where's Joe?"

She glanced back, then jumped up on Austin before turning and running farther back into the yard.

Austin followed, excited to see Joe and talk about everything he'd purchased for the company. There was something special about growing his company. He'd worked so hard over the years to get where he was. Oddly, he was moving back to where he started, mowing lawns and weeding flowerbeds. Both sides of his business held their own passion for him. Either way, he was creating, beautifying, and doing what he loved.

He smiled as he saw Joe sitting at the table on the small deck, hunched over as he read a book. Even after so much time together, his breath still caught each time he saw him. It almost scared him how fast his feelings for Joe were growing.

Joe glanced up as Riley ran to him and jumped up against his leg. A smile spread over his face as he noticed Austin. "Hey." He quickly shut the book and stood. "Missed you today."

"I missed you too." Austin pulled him into his arms, feeling the stress of the day start to fade. "Be glad you didn't go. It was a lot of waiting and paper signing."

Joe kissed him softly before pulling back. "Did you get everything you needed?"

"I did. We pick up the new truck and trailer tomorrow. I dropped the equipment I bought off at the storage unit. Once we get the trailer, we can head over and sort everything out. I need to sit down later tonight and figure out crews, and I have a meeting in about an hour with Trevor to talk about how he handles hiring guys off the streets." He took Joe's hand as he sat down. "What are you reading?"

Joe scooted his own chair closer to Austin's. "It's a book about overcoming PTSD. Not much in it really. I was hoping for more. I talked to Dr. Lloyd today, and he suggested it. He also agreed to cut back our sessions to one day a week, and told me to let him know when I'm free to come so we can work out a new schedule."

"You don't have to change your sessions with him.
